Dennis did a wonderful thing and bought tickets for us to see Bill Maher in Boulder, CO. We got all dressed up, went out to a cute little Thai Restaurant, and then were entertained for 2 solid hours by the satirical comic powerhouse…Bill Maher.
I was surprised by how animated he was on stage, and excited about the way he engaged the audience. Several times people interrupted him, but he was just totally chill. He once lost his place, but we audience members reminded him where he dropped off. He picked up exactly there…quite amazing to me considering the range of material he covers.
He did keep a notebook on stage, and referrred to it several times. Which made me wonder if there was anything in it for real, or if it was just a manipulative to make us *think* he had spent all this time preparing for his talk.
A narcissistic young man from the audience said, “Bill, say something about Boulder!”. I thought it was pretty funny, just the comment itself.
Bill replied back to the guy…motioning to the folder, something to the tune of, “Listen buddy, I spend a heck of a lot of time developing my material, so why don’t you leave the jokes up to me…people here want to hear the *professional* talk. The whole reason I keep coming back to Boulder is that there aren’t and a$$holes here!” The whole audience was in stitches, even the dude…it came out much funnier than what I’m writing.
All in all, I would sum up the 2 hours as extremely funny, with very little time to relax the stomach muscles. I would suggest training for his show by laughing for 30 minutes to an hour straight at least 2 times a week, for 6-8 weeks before his show!
