Huntsville is a neat town. I first went there in the Fall, 1961 when we (my parents and I) drove my oldest brother’s wife and newborn daughter down to join him. He had taken a job with Red Stone Arsenal after getting his B.S. in Physics in the Spring of 1961. I was only 7 years old at the time.

It has really grown from a small cotton town with an Army Base to the metropolis it is today. Yeah the early 60’s in Huntsville were still the time of “colored” restrooms and “colored” water fountains. Jim Crow laws in action. Hard to believe now.

My oldest brother, Everett has worked in the Space Program at Huntsville since 1964. He worked for Pratt and Whitney in Florida from 62-63 and then moved back to Huntsville. He worked for Chrysler on the Saturn S-IB and then went over to NASA (Space Shuttle Main Engines) in 1976. He will turn 69 in May and is still hard at it!

My second brother, Roy worked for NASA in Huntsville since 1964 and retired in 2000. He worked on the Moon Car team back in the 60’s and just before he retired he won some $$$ for saving NASA money on the SRB skirts. See http://marshallstar.msfc.nasa.gov/9-2-99.pdf for more info on his prize and a picture of my big bruder. :-)
