After an ample breakfast, we all rode bikes up to Konstanz. The terrain was mostly flat with gently sloping hills interspersed between the quaint little lakeside villages. It was about 12 km to ride into town, we again crossed the Swiss/German boarder with no problems. Sigi gave us a great tour, even stopping along the way to explain about certain historical buildings.
Once in Konstanz, we climbed the steeple of the Munster to take in the view. It was not nearly as high as the one in Ulm (thank goodness!), but the view was equally rivetting. With the sun shining, clear blue sky, and sparkling lake, we were all smiling. Sigi had just taken a walking tour of the town, so he gave us a tour and amazed us with his memory!
Once down in the village square, we could not continue on without some gelatto! It was wonderfully rich and creamy. Next up, we headed down to the waterfront. There is a ferry which can take you to a number of towns among the edge of Lake Konstanz, but we didn’t have time in the day to see more than one city. Between 4 and 5pm, we headed back to the bikes en route to Ermatingen.
We made a quick detour in Gottlieb, so we could purchase Gottliebers (paper thin cookie pastry filled with panache or chocolate). These little confections are usually dipped in hot cocoa or coffee, and they are fabulous!
Back at home, Sigi impressed us yet again with an italian dinner. What versatility! We had two types of raviolis, one with mushroom sauce and one with sun-dried tomato. He also made a spaghetti bolognaise, which delighted Dennis! We drank BOTH of George’s homemade wines, and they were quite yummy with the pasta.
Sigi and Petra travel as much (or maybe a little more) than Dennis and I, and they showed us pictures from their most recent adventure in Sicily. They took a camper over to Sicily and then toured the island. Their pictures were great, really did a fantastic job of capturing the flavor of the country.
