George, Dennis, and I rode 25 km to Stein-Am-Rhine, where we then caught a train to Schauffhausen to see the Rhinefalls. We got a train pass for the bikes and were able to take them with us, which was handy because the best viewing spot of the falls was quite a ways from Schauffhausen town center!
It was a lovely day, there were many people on the bike paths, being a Monday! We had a light lunch at Stein-Am-Rhine, and sat right by the river. It was gorgeous, and felt wonderful. I had a salad and some apple strudel (yum!).
The roaring water at the Rhinefalls is quite amazing. It’s like a mini Niagra falls! There is a room you can walk into (through a cave), and you are literally separated by a foot of concrete from the roaring seething madness! It’s a little scary because there is no glass, so if debris came down the river, it might end up in your lap! It was totally worth the ride, to see this amazing waterfall.
The ride back to the train station went fine, and we made it back to Sigi’s just in time to go zipping off for dinner. We went out for Turkish food (a preview for the next part of our journey). It was a very cluttered with all kinds of Turkish Nick Nacs. The food was quite yummy, and I couldn’t wait to get to Turkey. We also met Sigi’s two sons and sister (Heidi). His sister was a riot, a very gregarious woman, who made wonderful jokes and kept us laughing.
What a fantastic day!
