On Friday, May 9th, Jen & I headed to Eldorado Canyon to get grabby with some rock. The forecast had been for crummy weather (mid 40s-50s), but we just ignored it.
I got to her place after 9:30am, and we drove the last 15 minutes to Eldo.
We hiked from the Ranger Station up to the Rincon Wall, then down to West Ridge. Jen had not done this hike before, and the creek was raging. Since the shorter approach was not feasible, we decided to just enjoy the hike.
On the way to West Ridge, we passed Galen & Stan. Galen had placed two pieces of pro, and was working through the bottom section of Rincon. He was very involved in the process, so we didn’t distract him too much and left in search of a climb.
The first couple of potential climbs were occupied, so we kept hiking downhill. I was more than happy when we arrived at Washington Irving and it was free. I just couldn’t believe that nobody was on it already! S-C-O-R-E!!!
We both climbed it and then we cleaned it. A few pieces got stuck; so I engaged my super strength pro removal power to get them out. (Jen had tried for nearly half an hour, before giving up). She really gave it her all, so I commend her.
Then, we did Chianti. We did not top out, because we had to be back to her house early. So, we bailed off the side of the climb, landing at the anchors of Washington Irving.
We hiked out, reaching her car a few minutes after the time she should have been home…Doh! So, we were an hour late getting back home, but at least we got to enjoy two classic climbs.
Someday, I must go back for the second (albeit short) pitch of Chianti. It looks Rad.
