Snow Day

Meg & Emma Snow Pixies
When I was in grade school, I remember having a half day candy exchange and a costume party at school for Halloween. It was a day I looked forward to with great excitement. My parents did not believe in artificial sugar or color in a humans diet. The school holiday was my one exemption from a year long suppression of sugary sweets.

At Emma’s school, they have something called “Fall Break”. I’m not sure if it just happens to coincide with Halloween, or if it is on purpose. In any event, she had 28-30th of October OFF! Thus, the school entirely avoided Halloween. No dealings with costumes or candy. What clever administrators.

I was completely caught off guard, though. What was I supposed to do? I couldn’t just take 3 days off of work…but, I didn’t want to leave her home alone all day. Lucky for me, we were blessed with nearly 2 feet of SNOW, starting Wednesday afternoon through Friday early morning.

Because of this weather, I was able to work from home. My trusty laptop and scatterplots laid neatly about the living room coffee table. Snow falling softly outside, and a large cup o’ joe at my side. It was nearly perfect working conditions, with exception of the cacaphony of child & dog generated noise coming from our garden courtyard.

If it satisfied the following conditions:
1. Had a heartbeat.
2. Was covered in fur &/or warm synthetic snow protective gear
3. Was under 5 feet tall
Then it was out in our courtyard revelling in the winter storm.

Where's Emma?

I did my best to work, in spite of my nagging desire to join the courtyard snowball fight. After a couple hours of play, Emma & Meg declared they were done with the snow.

I put my stuff away, and got the art supplies out for the girls. They wanted to decorate their own trick or treat bags. So, I went into a supply store and a really nice lady filled my basket with an assortment of items for the project.

This is what I got at the craft store:
