RIP – Jiji

Jiji having a good time at Red Rocks
I feel obligated to write a little something about my brother’s ex-wife; who died at some dark hour between March 16-17th. Jiji decided to end the pain & suffering she had been dealing with her entire adult life. She could no longer cope so she did a dastard deed and jumped off a bridge. Portland has a myriad of bridges, so there was no way anybody could have helped her (even though she did attempt a phone call).

Jiji was married to my brother for 10 years, and I’ve been told they were happy times in her life. I am sad for my brother’s sake, as I know he had hoped for her continued happiness. Even though they had separated, until recently they had remained friends because Jon cared about her health and well being. It was essential for Jon to know that she was as comfortable as she could be. Divorce can be ugly, but Jon really went above and beyond to help her move through the transition.

We never expected for this event to occur. It is impossible to know the depth of her momentary delusion &/or torment. One thing I can know for sure is that it’s over for her. I guess I’m glad she got what she wanted; the pain is all over.

While she did not communicate much with us (as a family), she did provide Jon with happy times and for that I have to remember her. Her advice in the cullinary arena was first rate. I will never forget the time I called her late at night in a panic about how to cook shrimp. I didn’t know what to do because the butcher gave me whole shrimp. I’ve only ever seen them all cleaned up!

Jiji could be warm and loving, but she was very covetous of Jon. We didn’t see him much over those 10 years, and when we did see him, he was usually very wrapped up in what her needs were…he was a very sensative husband to Jiji. And, she was a sponge in terms of affection and attention.

I know my brother will find a way to heal, and move through these trying times. Jon is very resilient and brave. For making a change in life and dealing with the monumental tasks thrown his way as a result of her actions.

Here’s to Jiji !!! If I had a brewsky in hand I’d raise it up high and shout for three hoorahs!
