Trail Running – Golden Trail Runners

On Sunday morning, I woke up super early (day light savings made it feel even earlier!). I saw the sun rise as I drove out to Golden. I met Kemp, Phil, Brian, and Anne for a nice 1.5 hour jaunt up South Table Mountain.

The group jogged over to the trail head, and then we started climbing. I could feel my legs fatigued from hiking around the West Ridge the prior day. But, I thought, “I have to do this to train for the Grand Canyon!. It’s now only two months off, so this run is very important.”

As we climbed to the top of South Table Mountain, I could see a storm front coming in from the west. The temperature dropped as we ran. Will we make it back to Golden before the snow sets in?

As we ran around the top of South Table Mountain, Brian pointed out the various trails. Conversation was mostly about the dangerous wild animals runners have been confronted with; snakes, mountain lions, and coyotes.

When we started heading back down, we ran across half a deer leg, which kinda spooked me out. I was happy to be running with 3 other dudes. Thank goodness.

Back in town, we could see our breath. Temps dropped about 10 degrees, and the storm was really looming over us. Anne was still out there running, so I was a little worried in the back of my mind. But, Brian seemed to be okay…so I was sure she was okay.

Kemp & I ordered burritos at the cafe…Y-U-M! Then, Anne made it back. Whew! We had a nice conversation and then we all went our separate ways.

As I pulled into our neighborhood, flurries of white powder dusted the driveway! Perfect timing.
