Rock Climbing – Eldorado Canyon, West Ridge

Jenny & Clare Having Fun at Positively 4th Street (5.10-)
On Saturday, Jenny & I climbed at the West Ridge in Eldorado Canyon. It was forecasted to be mid 50, so I was psyched to get out. I hadn’t been climbing in Eldo in over a year (due to my back injury last summer). I could barely contain my excitement.

We both managed to fall into the creek on the way to the wall, but it was worth the wetness. We were the first to Washington Irving (5.6)! Right after we got there, scads of people arrived and all had to move on up the ridge because *we* were *first*!

After Washington Irving, the ridge was inundated with climbers. Ropes were hanging on practically every climb. It looked like a jungle. We decided to take a break for some snacks, before heading up the ridge. The sun was warming up the whole ridge, tee-shirt time!

As we hiked up the ridge, my thoughts wandered. I had hoped that the Mescaline route would be available, and I was secretly plotting my send. Unfortunately, that whole alcove was taken by a very large group of very loud people. The shouting was fairly continuous, and at one point, I felt like just leaving. The quietness we had enjoyed down at Washington Irving was just too good to be true (compared to this cacaphony of noise).

A couple of dudes were just finished with Positively 4th Street, so Jenny & I decided to climb in that little niche among the trees. I went up to set up the Top Rope, and soon we were both enjoying the climbs.

We did Positively 4th Street (5.10-) and Lunar Landing (5.8 PG 13). Both were fun, I’m happy I was on TR.

Then, I lead Dr. Michael Solar (5.7). It was really fun, I especially enjoyed the undercling halfway up!

After this climb, we decided to head back to the car. I wanted to show Jenny the top part of the West Ridge and the Rincon Wall.

It was a nice hike back to the car. We crossed the boulderfield, here’s a picture:

We chatted about interesting subjects such as Federally Regulated Drugs vs. Traditional medicine, the foundations of science, and dating (come on, we are girls!).

An excellent day of climbing! When I got home, I had to get ready…Dennis & I were invited to a St. Patrick’s Day party. Fun!
