We celebrated our 10th anniversary by travelling to Portugal. We were looking forward to a long vacation and had heard nothing but good things about Portugal. Before the trip I read several really amazing books about the Portuguese history as well as their famous explorers. I’m glad I did because the homework really paid off!

In any event, we flew from Denver to London Heathrow and then had a quick flight to Lisbon. Our travels went smooth and before we knew it, we had arrived at our destination.
For our first night in country, we decided to try a vegetarian buffet restaurant, Paladar Zen.
We left the hotel at night time and walked to where we thought the restaurant was…but we had some difficulty finding it. The streets were much smaller than we thought. In the dark, and without high speed internet phone service, it was a bit frustrating. By the time we got to the restaurant, we had worked up quite the appetite!
We ended up using some orienteering skills to find it, by searching down each street, using a specific pastry shop as a reference point. In any event, the food at Paladar Zen was delicious and the waiter was super friendly. I pulled out my Kindle, with my Portuguese to English Dictionary and that helped with the communication. I would definitely recommend this restaurant as it was very relaxing, had high quality and healthy food.
The next morning we woke up a bit early and walked around Lisbon. It was a very warm day out, so I immediately purchased a big bottle of sunblock.
Lisbon is a beautiful city and a fantastic place to walk. The very large Tagus river is flanking one side of the city, so it seems no matter where you walk, you are treated to beautiful sparkling water vistas.
Here’s Dennis walking down Rua Augusta, one of the many pedestrian friendly areas!

As the sun was setting, we walked back to our hotel. We had a fabulous first day in Lisbon. The next day, we’d take the high speed train up to Porto, for the start of our adventure tour. We were very excited to meet our guide.
