Dennis in the Historic District
On our last day in country, we flew from Cusco to Lima and then walked around Lima. After spending the afternoon and evening in Lima, we had a late night flight back to Denver. Since we had the walking tour of Lima at the start of our trip, it was even more fun to walk around and explore. We managed to find Bar Cordano, where Ernest Hemingway used to go and sampled the local favorites.

Algarrobina and Pisco served Neat
Algarrobina is a delicious drink made with Carob (a bean like Cacao) syrup, simple syrup, pisco, egg white(frothed!), evaporated milk, and cinnamon. There are lots of recipes online and it is simply delicious.
After the refreshments, we decided to walk around town a bit, before dinner. There were demonstrations going on all around the historic district, so we were the only ones on the streets. The youth of the town are fighting for better benefits as they don’t have good benefits until they are 26…At least, this was how one of our restaurant servers explained it to us!

So, while the craziness was happening all around us, we lonely tourists were able to get some fantastic pictures without the normal crowds.

Lima, all dressed for Christmas!
After walking around for a couple hours, we decided to eat dinner at Tanta. Their menu has a nice variety of locally inspired dishes, but each dish is presented in a fresh and exciting way. I ate there with Brenda a few years ago and it was still just as good!

Walking around a bit after dinner. Here is a fashion clothing place which reminded me of Costco, in that there were tables with just huge piles of clothes. Patrons have to sift through the piles of clothes to find the right size/color!

The Assault Police were there, keeping the peace, from the masses of youthful demonstrators.

We say goodbye and good night to Lima!
Going through customs, later, we see these huge warning signs on the cases of cigarettes.

Coming home, it was so nice to be able to sleep laying down! Thanks to Dennis and his accumulation of miles, we were able to afford the first class (the first time in our lives.).
