Eldorado Canyon – Half Day Hike

Clare & Jen Starting Hike in Eldorado Canyon Eldorado Canyon...A Climber's Paradise

On Saturday, the forecast called for a high in the mid 40s, with previous night’s overnight lows in the 20s and a chance of snow. Turned out, it was more like low 50s with a clear night. So much for the weather report! I’m starting to have a huge mistrust for the predictive ability of weather reports here in CO.

It seems the best approach is to just go to the crag. If the weather complies, you are ready to attack. If not, then have an alternative plan…

In any event; we decided, based on said forecast, that mid 40s was too cold for climbing. We opted for a lovely hike instead.

I met Jen, and we went to Eldo for a hike. It was a gorgeous day, still pretty nippy. Later in the day, it warmed up nicely, and we probably could have climbed a pitch or two…lessons learned.

The Continental Divide, I think?

Jen took me up the Rattlesnake Gulch trail, and then we meandered around on some other trails. We witnessed some wonderful views of the Continental Divide, West Ridge, and the Redgarden Massif.

We hiked for about 3.5 hours total at a fast pace, and then we called it a day.
