Lauren & Cookie Belle Hiking El Rito

Lauren & I roll into El Rito just as the heat gets hot. We decide not to climb in the rubber melting temperature, so we hike to the Trad Area for an exploratory look. The route to the Trad Area was a few miles down the gravel road from the Sport Area, and we found it without too much trouble. Lauren wears her VFFs for the hike and has a good time walking in them. I think Cookie Belle was jealous.

Not far from the end of the gravel road, we found this really nice campsite:
El Rito Trad Campsite

There were no cars at the Trad area, so we postulate that this site might be really nice & quiet compared to the Sport area.

Here’s Lauren excited to approach the crag and Cookie Belle Comes Running Back in Happy Dog Anticipation:

Turns out the Trad area is a little mossy & dirty for our taste. I’m glad I didn’t haul my gear all the way up there. I think if one were in the area on a very crowded day, it might be a good retreat from the crowds. I spot a line or two that look appealing, but for the most part, it looks manky. I was thinking it would be nice to have a weedwacker, scrubbie, and a toothbrush as part of my rack.

Ha-ha-ha. Just Joking! But not really.
