Last year, I climbed almost to the summit of Bison Peak, on Father’s Day. It was so inspiring, I vowed to come back with a rope and some gear! Fast forward one year and it was time to go exploring!
Erin and I decided to drive out to the Ute Creek trail head on Saturday, backpack up to a suitable camping spot and erect our tent. Then, all day Sunday, we’d climb and explore the area around Bison Peak. We were both totally amped for this trip.
Here are a few pictures…

We didn’t climb the tower…it’s very tricky looking and there’s not much protection.

We’re Definitely Up to No Good!
Around 2pm, we decided we’d better head back to camp. This gave us enough time for a quick mid-afternoon meal and time to pack up. We had to hike out for 6 miles back to the car…
We dropped 2,000 ft of elevation, when I had a panic attack about the keys. I tore apart my pack looking for them. I thought I might have left them back up at camp. Thank goodness, they were still in the tent pouch.
We both let out a sigh of relief and continued hiking. The light was starting to wane and we made it back to the car about an hour before sunset.
Erin got this picture as we drove north back towards Jefferson, CO.
Of course, when we saw the Stagestop Saloon “Open” sign, we made a little detour to enjoy a cold beer. We said Cheers! The owner/proprietor, Dennis, made sure they cooked us up some mozarella sticks and some chips/salsa. What a great guy!!!
