On Sunday afternoon, Dennis & I went out bouldering to Black Planets. We ran into Evan & Rebecca & Greg there. It was great to see them out, it has been way too long!
We started bouldering around 5 pm, and went until close to 7pm. Two hours was definitely long enough to give the tips a good thrashing. I took my Madrock Triple Pad out, and lugging that 20 lb beast around was in itself a good workout. Dennis bouldered with my old Misty Mountain pad, and it is much more portable.
I’m glad that I brought the beast because I ended up working out the moves to a couple highball problems, and was very very happy I had it under me. Once or twice I came off, and the new pad works like a charm.
Also very stoked that I got one of the problems, it’s a fun fun sporty problem. A blocky squeeze hold, pulling up to an open handed but very positive lip. It’s overhangy too, so the commitment factor is high.
The problems out at BP don’t really have names, and there isn’t much by way of documentation. But, this little bouldering spot is ideal for getting out of the wind (it’s in a gully mostly). And, the rock is mostly Black – as the name implies, so it’s great in the winter. This last weekend is probably the last time I would feel comfy going there as it will be too hot soon. But, early morning summer sessions would be I-D-E-A-L.

Sounds nice, I’d enjoy a session at the BPs about now…
