On Saturday, we met Charles & Mary in Estes Park. We were set to do a lovely day hike up to Crystal Lake (11,520 ft), via the Lawn Lake Trailhead. It was especially exciting because we hadn’t seen these guys in nearly a year.
The hike to Crystal Lake is 7.7 miles one way with nearly 3,000 feet of gain. It’s listed as “strenuous”, although we found it to be quite pleasureable. It follows a creek, and has ample shade, making it a lovely mid summer hike.
There were blankets of wildflowers along the way, which was lovely eye candy.
We started hiking at 10am, and took small breaks every hour or so. We arrived at the Lawn Lake at 12:45, and then Crystal Lake at 13:30.
We had a lovely lunch at Crystal Lake, on the top of a large boulder, with typical majestic mountain scenary surrounding us.
After lunch, we noticed some weather building, so we started hiking back.
We made it to the car at 17:15. What a wonderful day of hiking, and an enjoyable time with friends.
