Owens River Gorge – Trip Report

The day after St. Patrick’s Day, Ted & I went up to ORG. We left Ridgecrest around 7:30 am and had an uneventful drive up to Bishop. When we got to the Central Gorge pullout, there were 4-5 vehicles there, so we were a little concerned about crowds. However, when we walked down into the Gorge, we realized it wasn’t going to be a problem. Luckily people were pretty dispersed, and some were climbing in the sun (while we wanted shade). (more…)

Joshua Tree National Park – Trip Report

J-Tree Flowers - A Dangerous Beauty Clare & Rachel Smiling on top of Playhouse Rocks Paul on Beck's Bear (5.6)

On Saturday afternoon, I met up with Rachel and then Paul (from Las Vegas) at the Yucca Inn in Yucca Valley. We had reservations there for the weekend, and were bummed when we found out their hot tub was not working. Oh well!

Sunday morning, we rolled out of bed at the crack of 7am. With the time change, that felt earlier than it really was! By 8:15 we hit the road for J-Tree. Rachel used her park pass and before I knew it, we were at the parking lot for the Lost Horse area. Of course, somebody was already plastered to the crux of White Lightning, so we walked around a little bit until we bumped into the Playground Wall. (more…)

NJC – Trip Report

On Tuesday, I picked up Tom R. at 8:15am and we drove down to NJC. Actually, he drove, I slept most the way. We got there and pretty much had the place to ourselves.

We climbed at the White Face Wall by the bathroom. We climbed White Head (5.9 **) and White Out (5.10b**). We both agreed the later was way more fun. We also think it deserves more stars. It is very fun and has great flow. (more…)
