Eckhard Being Silly Clare With Silly Grin

Eckhard & I went climbing at West Ridge in Eldo Canyon. It was a chilly day. I remember leading Washington Irving (5.6), but I don’t remember much else about the day. I took a few pictures. The day was pretty cold, except for the few times the sun came out. I think we only climbed 3 or 4 pitches, as it started getting really cold around 3pm.

My First Hockey Game

Clare & Dennis at Avalanche Game
Dennis & I went to see the Denver Avalanche play the Calgary Flames. He had scored some rad seats through work, so we were pretty close to the ice.

Avalanche loses to Flames 1-0
All in all, I thought the experience was pretty fun. The Flames were just too good for the Avs…they were bigger, better, and faster on the ice. It was like watching a college team play a highschool team. I guess the only saving grace for the Avs was that they held the Flames to only one goal.

Still, I was sad that they couldn’t muster a goal for themselves. Didn’t they know that *I* came to watch them? Didn’t they know that it was *my* first hockey game? Aren’t they supposed to cater to their *fans*? Just joking, I’m hardly a hockey fan. Heck, I don’t even understand all the rules!

Dennis & Clare at Denver Film Festival Denver Film Festival
Dennis & I attended the Denver Film Festival. It was our first time, and we saw 2 movies. We watched the opening night of Slumdog Millionaire (wonderful movie!) and Tokyo!. The movie Tokyo was actually a compilation of three shorts from three different directors. Each short was very unique, and the audience was really reactive to the films. I really enjoyed the talks that took place after the film, as it lent some added insight.

What Should I do with Green Tomatoes?

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

All summer, we were blessed with a production of tomatoes by our tiny pot garden. Finally, the days got colder and I was left with several pounds of green tomatoes.

Eldorado Canyon – Rock Climbing

Friday, November 7th, 2008

On Friday, I met with Eckhard and Tim to climb in Eldorado Canyon. From what I can remember, I led the first pitch of Vershneidung (5.6). Eckhard led the second pitch (5.8+). Tim followed both pitches.

It was insanely cold outside. I think the temperature was hovering at around 40 degrees. With the wind, it was even colder. To this day, I don’t know how Eckhard led that second pitch. It’s in a shady dihedral, and the climbing is consistently tricky. A wide crack for your hands, and small edges for stemming with the feet. My hands & toes were completely numb by the time I reached the anchor. (more…)
