Friday, May 6th, 2011

Woke up to another day of rain and cloud. We thought it would be a great day for a Scotch Distillery Tour. Over breakfast, our B&B host, Peter, mentioned his favorite Scotch is Glenfarclas. Glenfarclas is a 5th generation family owned/operated Highland Scotch Distillary. (more…)

Ryvoan Trek - Scotland Forestry Topo Map

Clare & Dennis at Loch a Gharbh-choire
Woke up to windy and rainy weather, so we decided to do a bit of hiking and go for a drive. We drove to Loch Morlich, in the Glenmore Forest Park and bought a hiking map at the visitor’s center. A really nice guy named Allan sold us a map and recommended we give the Ryvoan Hike a whirl. The Ryvoan hike is 4.5 miles and generally takes a couple hours to do. We decided to extend the hike a couple miles by going over the Ryvoan Pass to Loch Gharbh-choire. (more…)

Edinburgh To Aviemore Driving Map

Queen's View

It was the end of our long weekend in Edinburgh. Errin and David would head back home. Dennis and I would drive up to Aviemore. But, not before a nice breakfast at Valvona & Crolla. Dennis had French Toast, Errin got porridge, Dave got an Irish breakfast, and I got an egg sandwich. Everybody enjoyed the food, but my sandwich was quite salty. I thought the Cafe Americano was delicious! (more…)

Edinburgh – Day 4 – Royal Britannia Tour & City Walk

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

On Monday, we took a tour of the Royal Britannia. I made this slideshow of the highlights. I was impressed with the modesty of the Queen’s chambers. My favorite space was where the Queen would have tea in the morning; a very sunny room facing a large cheerful deck. Also, they sell fudge on ship, so Errin & David bought some and shared. Yummy!

Later in the day, we walked to the Edinburgh Palace. Rajiv took the tour, Nalan had a teleconference for work, while the rest of us enjoyed lunch. We went back to the flat after this and said goodbye to Nalan & Rajiv. We were sad to see them leave, but we have already started thinking about our next rendezvous!

Scotland National Monument Nelson's Monument

James Clerk Maxwell Memorial Alexander Graham Bell Birthplace
Edinburgh Castle
In the afternoon, we took a walk about Edinburgh. Sights seen: National Monument, Nelson’s Monument, Princes Street Parks, James Clerk Maxwell Memorial, and Alexander Graham Bell’s Birth Place.

We had dinner at the Ghurka Brigade, a Nepalese Restaurant. We had chicken momos, pokharas, sag aloo, and lamb curry. We ended up with take out food, and it was delicious.

After dinner, we went back to the flat and Errin showed us how to play Plants Vs Zombies. She has completely mastered the game, so it was neat to get the beta about winning strategies!
