The World’s Fastest Indian

I’m an avid fan of Anthony Hopkins. Since he’s in this movie, I figured it would be good. It’s better than good though. I’m not really a motorcycle enthusiast, but anybody into cycles, would really love this movie. See, I loved it because I can relate to the desire, the need really, to push limits. (more…)

Force 10 Navaronne

A year after starring in the first Star Wars movie, Harrison Ford jumped right into this role. He’s a hot to trot military commander-set out with a mission to blow up a bridge in enemy territory (Germans). For the times, the special effects were pretty good. The music sounds almost exactly the same as the music from Star Wars (or ET at times!)…and in some scenes, I almost expected to see a wookie or ET pop into view!

The best part of the movie is the ending. The last line of the movie leaves the viewer in a chuckle. There are a few classic scenes throughout the movie, like when the explosives expert infaltrates the german supply shop. He needs a dolly to carry out crates of bomb material, and so he walks over to the german floor manager and grabs the dolly. Ignoring the managers abrupt german reprimands, he flips the guy the bird, and walks off with it anyways! F-U-N-N-Y!!!

My favorite quote of the movie paraphrased as follows “We better take off like ducks in a lightning storm” said by one of the Brits in the movie. I hadn’t heard that one before.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre

This movie came out in 1948, and yet it still rings true in theme today. It is a search for riches by three very different men. The only thing they have in common is the desire for gold and lots of it. There is an older/wiser man who takes in two younger ambitious fellows teaching them the ins and outs of mining down in Mexico.

Soon enough, their profit is made and the trick is turning the gold into cash! Moving it from the high country to the city is a huge ordeal, including making it past the local Indian tribes, the banditos, and each other!

For those of you who (like me) have grown up hearing the phrase, “Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges!” it will be a thrill to see this movie. I never knew it came from this movie. And, now that I do, it’s great. It features Humphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, and Tim Holt. John Huston won an Oscar for writing and directing it.

Lemmony Snickett’s Series of Unfortunate Events

Dennis & I watched this amuzing tale with smiles and laughs. Jim Carrey’s performance as the dreaded Count is pretty typical for him. I guess I still find his antics captivating, movie upon movie. The jewel of the movie is the animation, artistic renditions, and narration. It was great fun to see the story unravell and the musical score was mysterious/flirtatious at times.

The movie is about three kids who are orphaned due to a fire. The fire that kills their parents is a mystery, as is the circumstances in which they are left. The parents have arranged for them to live with various people (none of which they are really related). The kids have various talents, and my favorite kid is the sarcastic but whitty 2 year old…who’s main talent is biting! Anyways, what happens to them after the death of their parents is a “series of unfortunate events” which the viewer will find entertaining!

Batman Begins

Maybe it was the jetlag, maybe it was the formulaic way they produced this flick that drove me to slumber. I can’t believe I fell asleep watching this movie when so much of it involved beat em up, blow it up, stunt type effects! I enjoyed the historical nature of the movie, finding out the past of Batman-but it was just so flat. (more…)
