I co-led a CMC rock climb up the East Face North Side of Seal Rock. Kent and Chris paired up on one rope while Michelle and I were on the other.

I was happy Michelle was into swinging lead, as things would move a little smoother. She did odds while I did even pitches. It was generous on her part because number 4 is the money pitch. It features a really fun finger crack.

Barry and I climbed at Cob Rock in Boulder Canyon. I led North Face Center. Then, he led the first pitch of Empor and I did the 2nd pitch. We ended the day on Huston Crack-which he expertly led. I only had one number 4 cam…so he walked that bad boy up that crack as far as he dared. It was fun on Top Rope, but I’d want a lot larger (and more) big pro before trying it on lead!

I climbed Icarus (5.6) with Ryan on Saturday. He was the ropegun and did an excellent job! I was aiming to lead the higher up pitches, but when some wind and questionable clouds broke out…I caved. Glad Ryan was willing to step up and take the sharp end.

We did the walk off the East Slabs. He said later that the first time he did it, he thought, “Never again!”. But I guess he changed his mind.

What an adventure we had getting down those slabs! I think we topped out around 1pm but it took us 2 hours to get back to the car. Crazy!

That way is not, in my mind, a viable option. Just think if there was a storm, it would turn into a veritable near vertical slip-n-slide! Those slabs feature serious downclimbing and should not be done unless one knows where to go. Thankfully, we were able to figure it out.

We celebrated our success at Old Chicago with some cold ones and lunch. Just as we toasted, there was a crash/boom and the heavens let loose! Whew!
