Lauren & I roll into El Rito just as the heat gets hot. We decide not to climb in the rubber melting temperature, so we hike to the Trad Area for an exploratory look. The route to the Trad Area was a few miles down the gravel road from the Sport Area, and we found it without too much trouble. Lauren wears her VFFs for the hike and has a good time walking in them. Lauren & I went to Cimarron Canyon State Park under the auspices of checking out some climbing areas. In her Taos Rock Climbing guidebook, it lists a couple of crags in the park as having some moderate climbs. We hiked up to the Maverick area, and scoped it out.
I AM NOT POSTING ANY OF THE PICTURES I TOOK BECAUSE THIS WALL IS CLOSED. In fact the entire SP has been closed to climbing. From reading the following forum, posted on Mountain Project, I did not get any happy vibes that this issue would resolve anytime soon. So, saddly, we didn’t climb there. Even though, it looks like tons of fun!
On Friday, Jenny & I tackled Green Mountain. We had a nice hike, until Thunderstorms pushed us off the gentle slopes. (more…)
In order to acclimate Emma to CO, we decided to take her on a nice little day hike around Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Thanks to a blog by Fun Colorado Hikes, I located some information about Golden Gate Canyon State Park.
