Rock Climbing – Jurassic Park Crag, Vedauwoo, WY

Friday, June 25th, 2010

On Saturday, we headed to Jurassic Park for some fun single pitch climbing. I was excited to go back to the wall and try some of the climbs for a second time.

Unfortunately, when we got there, I got sick. The upset stomach caused me to become very friendly with a certain unspecified bush. I don’t remember the last time I was caught being this sick at a climbing wall…oh wait…that’s cause I haven’t been!

Jen Climbing Prologue Variation (5.4) Jenny Laybacking A Lawyer on the Toilet (5.8)
Bottom Line (pun intended) is that we ended up just doing two pitches: Prologue Variation Led by Jen! (5.4-with a 5.6 lower crux) and A Lawyer on the Toilet (Top Roped by Jen & Jenny). I must admit, I was really jealous of that lawyer!

Jenny, Jen, and Clare Summit of Ed's Crack (5.7)
Day 1 of Road trip to Vedauwoo was a *Phenomenal* success. Largely in part to my companions, Jenny & Jen. They arrived on time and ready to go. We packed up the Subi, and headed out on the open road. It was Thursday, so I just knew we’d find a camping spot.

The main question was, “Were we going to be rained out our first afternoon?”. I hoped we would win the weather lotto and be granted an opportunity to climb Edward’s Crack…Watch the Video to find out!

Jim & Aimee Hiking to Canal Zone, Clear Creek Canyon Clare Leading at Canal Zone, Clear Creek Canyon
We had a gorgeous half day of climbing at Canal Zone in Clear Creek Canyon. I led three fun 5.8’s; Box of Rain, Venice Beach, and Holiday Road. Jim & Aimee were visiting from Indianapolis, so I was the guide. It was Father’s Day; by midday the crag was ***packed*** with families. We decided to leave when the wall went in the sun, and as we were leaving our empty wake was filled with children.

Happy Climber Girls on Top of First Flatiron
Jenny & I climbed a variation of Fandango (5.6) on the First Flatiron, near Boulder, CO. It was a beautiful, sunny, and clear day. We started climbing at 8:50am and finished at 2:40pm, 6.5 hours of excellent climbing for roughly 6 pitches. My average pitch time was ~40 minutes including anchor set-up, and Jenny was running around 25 minutes a pitch. Excellent, work!
